The advantage of the double lunge compared to the normal lunge line is that you can work on straightness as well as on the bend of the horse. The outside lunge line prevents the horse from falling out with the hindquarters and keeps the equal bend.
For the following problems the double lunge is suitable:

Working on the double lunge should make the riding easier.
With the double lunge you can work and improve almost all the dressage movements without bothering the horse with additional weight on his back. Especially horses with back problems in any way profit by this work. It is much easier for them to relax and swing in the back.
You can see on these pictures how easily it is possible to work on collected movements. The deep outside leading line keeps the horse in an equal bend and so you can collect your horse in smaller circles up to the canter- pirouette. Suppleness, bend of the haunches and reaching forward of the inside hindleg improve by this work. Because you don’t need sidereins you are able to let the horse chew the lines out of your hand between collected movements. This is a very good way to get a supple and strong back without any tension.
