Starting

When you look in many barns around you will see that a lot of horses have not the training they should have to improve. Many horses never see anything else than their stall, the indoor arena, and maybe an outdoor arena and the showgrounds. Completely bored they work with resistance an no fun at all.

In the first two years of training your equine student is like a kid in elementary school. In former times this was called a “remonte”. This period of time should include a lot of alternating ways to work with the youngster to improve muscle building and keep the horses mentally interested. This can be work with cavalettis, climb up hills, jumping small fences get to know different kinds of underground, interval training and getting used to scary things. Dressage training and working on the first three points of the training scale complete the training schedule.

One of the most important things a young horse has to learn is to step with his hindlegs wide under the center of gravity and stretch his neck forward-downward. This should be possible in the arena as well as on a trail ride.

All the horses we have in training get the special programm of lungeing, work in hand and dressage training in the arena as well as riding outdoors and on trails if the owner wishes. For trail rides with young or inexperienced horses we have senior lead horses to give the youngsters the security they need at the beginning.

Together with the owner we decide the length and intensity of the training and work out a training schedule at the end to empower the owner to work with his horse back home in the same way.

After the training period in our facility you are welcome to ask for advice if you have any problems or special questions.

With a young horse you can ride dressage movements as well on a pasture as in the dressage arena. But you have much more room and it is less boring for the horse.

Correct lungeing and starting the horse under saddle prevents problems before they come up. A lot of young horses are nowadays already problem horses before they finish their first year of training!
